Membership

What is church membership?

The Bible uses many metaphors when talking about the church: a bride, a building, a family, a flock. One important metaphor Paul uses is the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12, he writes that every member of the body has a distinct role — and that the body suffers when any part is missing.

According to the Bible, we need you and you need us. And it is through our mutual commitment and service to one another that the body flourishes, Christians grow, and God is glorified.

Common questions about membership

Anyone who professes faith in Jesus Christ, has been or is willing to be baptized, and is committed to the good of Sojourn Church and its members is eligible and encouraged to pursue membership.

Members are expected to gather faithfully on the Lord's Day, participate in the life of the body, give generously, care for one another, and strive to live a holy life. In short, Members are expected to live as Christians live. You can learn more about our member's commitments to God and to one another by reading our church covenant.
